Butterfly valve DN 3500 for a Norwegian power plant

We delivered a Vexve Armatury® Butterfly valve with a nominal size of DN 3500 for a new 100 MW hydraulic power plant located in Rendalen, Norway.

A new 100 MW hydraulic power plant in Rendalen, Norway, has installed a butterfly valve with a nominal size of DN 3500 into a pipeline that is 140 metres long and has a diameter of 3.8 metres. The valve was constructed near the current power plant, which has been operational since 1971.

The butterfly valve has an impressive flow rate of 60 m3/s when fully open, which is exceptional for Czechia at the time of installation. The valve's weight, calculated using industry-standard formulas, is a record-breaker: the butterfly valve with lever and counterweight weighs a total of 35 tonnes!

Due to the extensive parameters of the butterfly valve, we employed the Simulation Works program to perform a series of calculations. According to Calculation Engineer Mr. Jiří Halfar, the submitted calculations had to precisely align with the customer's requirements.

The customer placed particular emphasis on achieving a low flow resistance coefficient, so we designed the butterfly valve disc to achieve the required values and substantiated this with calculations.

To guarantee the highest quality throughout the process, we conducted precise calculations and analyses to optimise the flow, strength and hydrodynamic functionalities of the valve.
